Put 33s on my Tacoma and my highway mpg actually went up 2 mpg

I swapped in some 4.56 gears when I did the tire upgrade last fall near Flagstaff, and I guess I finally got the ratio right because my truck is actually getting 18 mpg at 70 now instead of the 16 I had before. Has anyone else seen better fuel economy after regearing for bigger tires?

Dude that's wild. I always thought regearing was just for towing or rock crawling and it would kill your highway mileage for sure. My buddy put 35s on his F150 with stock gears and it was a dog, so I figured bigger tires always meant worse gas. But hearing you got 2 mpg better makes total sense now, the engine's not working as hard to spin those heavy tires. I might actually look into 4.56s for my 4Runner now since I've been getting like 14 mpg with my 33s and it sucks. You kinda flipped my whole view on this.

Yeah but @hernandez.morgan, regearing will wreck your highway RPMs and kill your top end. Not worth it just for gas.
