My welding buddy in Reno said stop building for the trail I ride once a year
I was showing him photos of my Tacoma build last weekend, 35s, 6 inch lift, all of it, and he asked how many times I actually hit the Rubicon. He pointed out I drive it to Home Depot 95 percent of the time and said I built the truck for a trip I take maybe twice a year. Am I the only one who catches themselves building for the dream trip instead of the driveway?
The "95 percent of the time" line is the part that got me, because that's the real math most of us never do. So here's my question, and I mean it straight: if you sat down and honestly tracked your miles for a year, how much of that 6 inch lift and 35s actually gets used? Because there's a version of this where the build still makes sense, maybe you just like the look and the truck does fine on the street. But if the answer is that you're hauling around a setup that only pays off twice a year, what's stopping you from building smaller and renting or trailering something for the Rubicon trip?
