Chose 33s over 35s for my daily driver Tacoma, kind of regret it now
When I built up my 2016 Tacoma last spring I was stuck between 33 inch tires on stock gears or jumping to 35s with a regear. I went with the 33s because I drive 60 miles a day to work in Boise and didn't want to mess with the diffs. Six months later the truck feels fine on pavement but I'm scraping the skid plates on every trail near Idaho City. Should have just eaten the cost of the regear and gone bigger the first time. Anyone running 35s on stock 3.73s and living to tell about it?
Man, I was the guy telling everyone to stay on 33s and keep your gears stock, swore up and down it was the smart way. Then I rode with a buddy running 35s on his Tacoma and it walked right through the stuff I was dragging my skids over. Those 3.73s will get you around town okay but you'll be downshifting on every hill and your trans will hate you on the trail, so if you're already thinking about it just save up and do the regear with the tires once. Plus with the lift you'd need anyway you'd probably have the same clearance problem the other way around, so going straight to 35s would've saved you money in the long run.
