Appreciation post: the guy who spotted my offset shackle mount at a gas station in Flagstaff

I was pumping gas near Flagstaff last month when this older guy walks over and points at my rear leaf spring shackle mount. He says it's twisted about 3 degrees and will wear out my bushings in under 500 miles. I thought he was just being nosy, but I crawled under and sure enough he was right. I had to cut off that bracket and weld a new one with a laser level (which felt ridiculous at the time). Saved me from having to replace the whole spring pack next season. Anyone else had a random stranger spot something obvious you missed on your build?

Saved me from having to replace the whole spring pack" - yeah, and saved you from that awkward conversation with your wife about why the truck is suddenly bucking like a rodeo bull. Random strangers are either serial killers or the best mechanics you never hired. No in between. I had a guy at a tire shop tell me my control arm bushings were shot just by watching me pull into the lot. Didn't even get out of my truck. I told him to kick rocks. 400 miles later my alignment was so bad I went through a set of tires in two months. Shoulda listened.

Had a buddy who ignored some old timer at a gas station telling him his brake line was leaking. Waved him off like he was crazy. Three days later he's standing on the pedal going down a hill and barely stopped at a red light. Threw a thousand bucks at a shop the next morning.
