Appreciation post: guy at the tire shop in Reno explained why my 33s were rubbing and it was not the lift
Was getting my 33s rotated last week at a shop off 4th in Reno and the older guy working the counter asked what my rig was doing when it rubbed. I said it was the 3 inch lift being too small and he just laughed and told me to crawl under there while he pointed. Turns out my wheels had way more backspace than stock, like 4.5 inches, and that was pushing the tire into the fender at full lock the whole time. I had been ready to drop $800 on a bigger lift and he saved me from that in about 5 minutes with a flashlight. He said most guys buy height when they really need to fix the offset first and nobody ever tells them. I am honestly still mulling it over because I almost spent all that money for no reason. Has anyone here run spacers to fix rubbing instead of going taller, and did it hold up on the trail?
