I finally believe in those fancy dust collection systems
Always thought they were overpriced until I spent 3 hours cleaning fine sawdust out of every tool in my garage last weekend. What finally made you switch on something you used to doubt?

Gotta agree, I was the same way until I realized it wasn't just about keeping the shop clean, it was about keeping my lungs from turning into concrete. Once you see that cloud of dust you used to breathe in, you can't unsee it.

You said "keeping my lungs from turning into concrete" and that line hit me hard because it's totally true. I used to think dust collection was just for neat freaks or people with too much money. But after seeing what a cheap shop vac actually catches versus what stays floating in the air, I changed my mind fast. That fine dust stays suspended for hours and you're breathing it the whole time. Now I tell anyone starting out to skip the fancy tools and buy a halfway decent dust collector first.

Hate to be the contrarian here but I've run a shop for years with just a decent shop vac and a cyclone separator and my lungs feel fine. @river_hall44 makes it sound like you're breathing in asbestos but most fine dust settles way faster than people claim if you just crack a window or run a box fan. Sometimes I think the whole dust collector industry convinced everyone they need thousands of dollars of gear when a 50 dollar mask and some common sense does the job.
