Dropped $300 on a heated driveway pad and it paid off in one storm

I live in upstate NY near Albany and got tired of shoveling our steep driveway every winter. Found a plug in heated mat from a local hardware store for around $300. First big snow came last January and I just rolled it out before the storm. Woke up to clear concrete while my neighbor was out there for 2 hours with a shovel. Probably saved my back more than money but still felt like a win. Anyone else try one of these or do you just stick with salt and elbow grease?

My buddy in Rochester tried one last winter and said the cord got chewed up by his plow before it even snowed lmao. I just stick with the old school salt and shovel combo cause $300 feels steep for something that might not last. But honestly for a steep driveway like yours that sounds worth it just for the back saving factor. That first morning waking up to clear concrete must've felt like winning the lottery compared to your neighbor suffering out there.

Busted cord before the first snow, what rotten luck.
