TIL my local habitat restore has a secret back room for tools
Stopped by the Habitat for Humanity ReStore on 8th street yesterday looking for a cheap circular saw. The front area had nothing but rusted hedge trimmers and a broken bench vise. A worker saw me looking bummed and said they keep the good stuff in back. Walked through a door that said employees only and there were like 30 power tools on a metal shelf, all priced under $30. Got a Dewalt drill for $15 that just needed new brushes. Did I just stumble onto the best kept secret in town or does every ReStore do this?

Hold up, is this really that big of a secret though? I mean, most ReStores I've been to just put the decent tools out on the floor eventually if they're priced right. Maybe you just got lucky with that one worker being super helpful, idk.

Not every store does this but a lot of the ones in bigger cities definitely have a back room. The workers usually have to like you or see you know what you're looking at before they'll let you back there. Fifteen bucks for a Dewalt drill is a steal even if it needed new brushes. I'd say you hit the jackpot and that worker probably saved that drill from sitting on the shelf for months.
