Spent 3 hours trying to set up a tent on Mt. Chocorua last weekend

I bought this REI Half Dome tent online and figured it would be a quick setup at the Jim Liberty Cabin site, but the poles kept slipping out of their sleeves in the cold wind. After 3 hours of frustration with the rain fly, I finally realized the manual was missing a step for locking the clips. Has anyone else dealt with a tent that took way longer than the '2 minute setup' it promised?

Did you double check that you had the pole sections pushed all the way together before threading them through? Cold weather makes the fabric stiffer and the poles contract a bit, so they can pop apart easily. The Half Dome has a reputation for a learning curve, I think I spent a good hour on mine the first time too. What helped me was laying everything out flat on the ground and making sure the clips were fully released before trying to snap them in. Once you get the hang of it, it does get faster, but that first trip is rough.
