Rant: That old grain silo on Route 9 is not a local legend, it's a safety hazard
I grew up in Millbrook, a tiny town maybe an hour from here, and we had this abandoned grain silo by the old feed mill. People love telling stories about it, like it's haunted or a gang hideout from the 70s. Last month, my buddy and I drove out there to check it out for old times' sake. The whole thing is rusted through, there's exposed wiring hanging down, and the floor inside is completely rotted. I'm not kidding, a kid could fall through that thing in two seconds. But every local forum and Facebook group treats it like a must-see spot. My neighbor's dad actually worked at that mill back in the 80s, and he told me there's nothing spooky about it, just a lot of broken glass and rat droppings. Has anyone else from a small town dealt with this, where people hype up a dangerous old building like it's some kind of treasure?

Hang on, your neighbor's dad actually worked there in the 80s? That's wild. I mean, you'd think if anyone had a spooky story it'd be the guy who was there, right? But no, it's just "watch out for rat poop and broken glass." My cousin swears up and down the silo near his town was a "known" mob body drop spot, but the only thing he ever found was a rusty bike frame and a lot of angry hornets. People really do love turning a dangerous, falling-apart building into some kind of treasure hunt.

Honestly, the whole "urban explorer" thing is just people chasing a feeling they saw in a movie. Nobody ever finds the dead body or the satanic ritual room. Best case you get a lame photo, worst case you step through a rotten floor and break your ankle three miles from cell service. The real story is that these places are just old buildings full of asbestos and raccoon crap, not some portal to a mystery.
