Tried outsourcing my bookkeeping to a $200/month service and got a tax notice 4 months later
The software kept miscategorizing my equipment purchases as office supplies and now I owe $1,200 in back taxes plus penalties for depreciation errors - has anyone else had a cheap virtual bookkeeper mess up their deductions?

Tbh "you get what you pay for" is overblown, plenty of cheap services work fine

Gotta push back a little on the "cheap help" thing though. I've hired folks through TaskRabbit and local Facebook groups for pretty fair rates and had them do amazing work. Like one guy fixed my fence for $50 and it's still standing two years later. There's a difference between paying a fair wage for good work and just throwing money at the most expensive person hoping that makes them competent. Sometimes expensive help just means they have better marketing, not better skills.
