Took me 8 years to realize I was packing my backpack all wrong

I always put the heavy stuff at the bottom because it felt more stable, but after a 12-mile hike in the Cascades last weekend my shoulders were killing me and a random thru-hiker pointed out my center of gravity was off. Has anyone else had that lightbulb moment where you realized you'd been doing something basic backwards the whole time?

Started putting my sleeping bag at the bottom and never looked back.

Never looked back" because my back couldn't look anywhere else after all that.

Blame it on poor sleeping positions and questionable life choices, right @michael_craig? At least your back can still hurt in a new spot now, so that's progress. Mine just clicks every morning like a broken sprinkler timer.
