My old hiking boots vs the ones I got after $80 at REI last spring, night and day on wet granite

I couldn't figure out why I was slipping all over Franconia Ridge until I realized the tread on my beat-up pair was basically bald after 4 years of weekend hikes, and the new pair with Vibram soles grabbed that wet rock like glue on the first try.

Dropped my phone trying to switch boots mid-hike, so relatable.

Yeah I read somewhere that something like 1 in 4 hikers have dropped a phone on a trail. Seems low honestly. I guess a lot of people probably keep theirs buried in a pack so it doesn't happen as much. But with boots especially, it's such a clumsy moment. @the_elizabeth I feel like that's one of those things where you just stand there staring at it on the ground for a second before you pick it up. Hope the screen survived at least.
