The week my washing machine flooded and everything went sideways

Last month I had the worst week of my adult life, no joke. It started on a Tuesday when my washing machine just decided to dump about 30 gallons of water all over my basement floor. I came down to check on a load and my socks were literally floating around. Cost me $300 for an emergency plumber to come out and tell me the hose had a tiny crack. Then on Wednesday, I backed my car into a mailbox in the parking lot of a CVS and cracked my taillight. That was $180 to replace. By Thursday I just stayed in bed and ate cold pizza from the night before. The only good part was my buddy brought over a six pack and we just sat on my porch complaining about everything. Has anyone else ever had a week where you just feel like the universe is messing with you on purpose?

Gotta disagree with the whole "universe messing with you" thing. Those are just normal everyday mistakes and bad luck that happen to everyone, not some cosmic conspiracy against you. Sometimes life just throws a few curveballs at once and the only thing that matters is how you roll with it instead of blaming the stars.

Oh man, I gotta push back on this a little. Look, I get it, the flood and the car thing suck, but isn't this kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy? You were already having a bad week so everything felt worse. The plumber was $300, but a new hose is like $10 at the hardware store and takes 5 minutes to swap. And backing into a mailbox? That's just not paying attention (we've all done it, but still). I'm with @ellis.robert on the braided hoses, but honestly, I think you invited the chaos by getting worked up over the socks floating. One bad thing happens, you let it snowball. Cold pizza and a six pack with a buddy sounds like a solid recovery though, so maybe you're secretly winning.

The universe is messing with you on purpose" - man I felt that in my bones. After my own flood fiasco I bought those braided steel washing machine hoses and haven't had a problem since. Sometimes you just gotta ride the wave and eat that cold pizza while it lasts.
