Rant: My neighbor's lawn went from perfect to weeds in just one summer
He stopped watering it for like 3 months after his sprinkler broke, and now the whole yard is covered in dandelions and crabgrass, has anyone else seen a yard go downhill that fast?

Oh man, that's rough. But I gotta gently point out that dandelions aren't really weeds in the bad sense, they actually help the soil and bees love them. If he let it go that long without water, the weeds probably just moved in because the grass died off completely. Give him a break though, maybe he just couldn't afford to fix the sprinkler right away or was dealing with something else. A yard can definitely turn that fast in summer heat if you stop caring for it.

Never really thought of dandelions that way, but you make a good point about the bees and the soil. I guess I always just saw them as an eyesore without stopping to think what they actually do.

And @emerycarr is right, it's easy to just see dandelions as a mess but they're actually doing work underground breaking up compacted soil. Honestly if the guy's sprinkler was broken for a month and he couldn't afford to fix it right away, that's just life. I've seen lawns turn completely brown in like two weeks of 90 degree weather, so a month with no water means the grass is basically toast and anything green that moves in is a bonus at that point.
