I finally read the fine print on my car insurance and found out I've been paying for 'roadside assistance' I never used for 4 years straight
I was flipping through old paperwork looking for my registration and spotted a $45 annual fee for something called 'premier roadside' that just covers towing and jump starts, which I've never needed once is that just lazy money or is it actually worth keeping for peace of mind?

My brother had to use his roadside assistance twice last winter during that bad cold snap we had, and he swore it saved him a ton of money on towing fees alone. I read somewhere that a single tow truck ride can run you over a hundred bucks easily, so if you live in an area with rough winters or do a lot of highway driving, it might be worth keeping. But if you're mostly driving around town and your car is fairly new and reliable, you could probably drop it and just call a friend if something happens. Maybe check if your credit card or cell phone plan already includes some kind of roadside help, because a lot of them do now and you might be double covered without knowing it.

Wait, @sean_walker45, hasn't anyone told you that it's not about how rare it is, it's about how much it sucks when you actually do need it? I learned that the hard way when my car died on the highway in the middle of nowhere and that tow cost me $150 easy.

Isn't it kind of rare to actually need a tow though, @theawest?
