Wasted $150 on a home security system that I could have set up myself for $50

Honestly, I fell for one of those door-to-door sales pitches from SafeShield Home Pros and dropped $150 on a basic alarm setup they installed. Tbh, I found the exact same sensors and hub on Amazon for $50 and it took me maybe an hour to set up myself. Ngl, I feel like an idiot for not looking into it before they left with my money. Has anyone else gotten pressured into buying something similar and regretted it?

Door to door sales are predatory by nature, but $150 is actually not terrible for a basic setup with installation included. You paid for the convenience of not having to research, order, and mount it yourself. Not saying it was a great deal, but at least they didn't sell you a multi-year monitoring contract on top of it. The real scam is when those companies lock you into a $40/month plan for a system that works fine without monitoring. Idk, maybe I'm off base but the self install stuff can be a pain if you have to drill into brick or run wires.

Oh goodness, you are absolutely right about those monitoring contracts, they really do take advantage of people.

Changed my mind honestly. You made solid points about those contracts.
