Tried hiking Mount Moosilauke last Saturday and got turned around by a wall of fog at 3,800 feet
I could barely see 10 feet in front of me for an hour and a half, had to navigate by GPS on my phone since all the cairns disappeared into white nothing, and then the sun came out for exactly 3 minutes at the summit before the clouds swallowed it again, has anyone else dealt with that kind of sudden weather shift up there?

Was your phone's GPS laggy in that fog, or did it hold up pretty good?

Man, funny you ask about GPS in fog. Last time I was out in heavy fog I was actually using my phone to navigate a hiking trail and ended up following a deer trail for like a mile before I realized it. The GPS was fine, but my sense of direction was completely shot. Had this moment where I was staring at the blue dot thinking "that can't be right" but it actually was right, just didn't feel like it in all that whiteout mess. Ended up having to use a compass app too because the map just didn't match what I was seeing through the fog.
