Debate: should you hire movers or DIY when stairs are involved in Boston
I was moving from a third floor walkup in Somerville last month and my friend said to just rent a truck and do it ourselves. We got half the furniture down before my couch got stuck on the landing and we were stuck for 45 minutes. I ended up calling Two Men and a Truck at the last minute for $380 to finish the job. So what do you think, is it worth paying extra for pros when there are narrow stairs or tight turns, or do you just muscle through it yourself?

Used to think movers were overpriced until my couch got stuck on a staircase for an hour.

My $380 moving bill in Back Bay last year was less than the therapy I needed after trying to get a mattress around a 90 degree turn myself. You got off cheap at that price, honestly, because one broken banister or a pulled back muscle would have cost way more. Movers have the right gear and know how to angle stuff through tight spots, so I think paying a little extra saves your sanity and your walls.
