Thought I could fix a leaky faucet in an hour... took me 4 days
I tried replacing a cartridge in my kitchen faucet and ended up snapping the whole valve stem off inside the pipe. Had to call a friend to help me extract it with a $12 tool from the hardware store. Has anyone else had a simple plumbing job turn into a weekend project?

literally the exact same thing happened to me last month, I was so confident it would be a quick fix and then bam, snapped the whole thing off inside the pipe. I ended up having to call my dad and he brought over one of those extractor tools too, took us another whole day just to get the broken piece out lol. that $12 tool is a lifesaver but man, I will never again assume a plumbing job is "easy

Idk maybe it's just me but once you've snapped a valve stem off inside a pipe you really start to question all your life choices. That extractor tool is basically magic though, I had no idea such a simple thing could save you from having to rip out the whole wall. And yeah, the flooding thing is real too. My buddy tried to fix a toilet fill valve and ended up with water dripping through the ceiling into his living room three hours later. Plumbing jobs always seem to find the most creative ways to go sideways.
