Our block got a new drainage ditch and the difference is wild

For 3 years my backyard turned into a pond every time it rained hard. The city finally put in a proper drainage ditch along Maple Street last spring. Now after a heavy storm last Tuesday the water was gone in 2 hours instead of sitting for days. My neighbor's basement used to flood every April and they said last month was bone dry. Has anyone else seen a big change after a local infrastructure project?

Wait, so you're saying I should be happy about a ditch now?

Depends on the ditch, some of them just push the problem somewhere else.

yeah no you're totally right about that. half the time a ditch is just redirecting water to flood someone else's yard or road. seen it happen more times than I can count around here. people think they solved the problem but they just made it worse for the neighbor down the street. drives me nuts when folks don't think through the whole picture before digging.
