Unpopular opinion: My bench partner and I disagree on free tiny ring resizes

I squeezed in a simple ring resize for a neighbor and didn't bill them. He says it cheapens our skill, but I see it as just being nice. How do you handle little jobs like this?

Tell your bench partner he needs to relax before he starts charging kids for blowing up their balloons. It's a tiny ring resize for a neighbor, not a free crown setting. What's next, sending an invoice for holding the door open? Sometimes being a decent person is just part of the job. You think the local baker cries over giving a free cookie sample?
