Heads up on the drainage ditch behind the new lots off 23 Ave

Was walking my dog back there last week and noticed the water pooling way worse than during the spring, so check your sump pumps before the next big rain or you might end up with a wet basement like my neighbor did last month.

...and honestly I read somewhere that the city's drainage study from last year flagged that whole area as a problem spot. Apparently the runoff calculations they used for those new lots were way off, like off by 30 percent or something. My buddy who works in civil engineering said they should've put in bigger culverts before they even broke ground. So yeah, keep an eye on that pump, and maybe talk to your insurance guy about flood coverage before the next storm hits.

Yeah so that reminds me, we had a street a few blocks from my house that flooded so bad two years ago that the mail truck got stuck right in front of the pump station. I mean completely underwater up to the doors. The thing that gets me is they knew about it for years and just kept kicking the can down the road. They finally dug up the whole intersection last fall and put in these massive pipes, like big enough you could probably crawl through them. But by then everyone on that block had already filed claims and a few basements were totally ruined. Just feels like they always wait until it's a full blown disaster before they actually do anything about it.
