Used to just dump grounds in the filter, now I weigh every dose
Back when I started making coffee at home maybe 10 years ago, I would just scoop grounds straight from the bag into the filter basket. No scale, no timing, just whatever felt right. Then about 4 years ago I bought a cheap $20 digital scale off Amazon and started weighing out 18 grams for my V60. The difference was night and day honestly, my brews got way more consistent and I stopped having those bitter or weak cups. Has anyone else noticed a big jump after getting a scale?

18 grams for a V60 is where I landed too. The consistency thing is real, especially if you're like me and switch beans a lot. I've had bags that needed 17.5 to taste right and others that were better at 19. Your mileage may vary on the exact number but once you start weighing, you realize how much water temp and grind size matter too. A scale just takes one variable off the table so you can figure out the rest. I still use a cheap one, had it for years, no reason to upgrade unless it breaks.

Honestly I think you're overcomplicating something that was perfectly fine with a scoop and some basic timing.
