Update: That off-grid cabin had no running water

I rented a cabin in the woods advertised as rustic but comfortable. The pump was broken, so we had to haul water from a stream. What red flags do you look for when booking these kinds of spots?

My last cabin booking explicitly listed a hand pump well.

Guess I'd be the one to break the pump handle, @smith.sage... my outdoorsy skills stop at turning on a tap.

So they actually put that in the description? Makes you wonder if the normal water is any good, right? Those old pumps can be real trouble if nobody takes care of them. At least they told you straight out so there's no surprise. Hope the place had a real sink and toilet inside too.

Would probably end up soaking wet trying to figure that out. My outdoorsy vibe is purely decorative.
