Heads up about coworkers borrowing your shears for other stuff

Mine used my good pair to cut some craft paper. Now they're totally blunt and need professional sharpening. Lock your tools up or label them clearly.

Yikes, that's so frustrating when people ruin good tools. I learned the hard way with my own gear getting messed up. What worked for me was buying a small, lockable case for my most used items. It sends a clear message without having to argue with anyone. Plus, it keeps everything in one place so nothing walks off.

That bit about a lockable case sending a clear message is spot on, @adam675. I read somewhere that most tool "borrowing" happens because things are just left out in the open. Putting your good stuff away like that really is the simplest fix.

Have you ever seen someone's gear get ruined because people borrowed it without asking? My buddy Mike had his favorite drill left out in the shop, and it came back with a cracked handle. He was so mad, but instead of yelling, he bought a tough case with a combo lock. Now when people see it, they know not to touch his things without permission. It's like the case itself does the talking, and he doesn't have to get into arguments.
