From salon to sidewalk: what the block party taught me
I was sure haircuts had to happen inside a shop for them to be good. The stylist at our yearly block party showed me different with her busy chair and happy customers. People enjoyed the easy vibe and fast trims under the sun. I tried it myself last week and the response was HUGE, so I'm booking more outdoor spots now.

Yeah, it totally makes sense it blew up. The whole "no appointment, just show up" thing takes the stress out of it. You just gotta watch for a windy day, or you're chasing clippings down the street. But that casual feel is half the win, people relax more.

Paulm95, your point about chasing clippings reminds me of this time we tried a backyard movie night without checking the forecast. A huge gust came out of nowhere and sent the screen flying into the neighbor's pool. Everybody just laughed it off though, and we ended up having a better time because of the chaos. That's the thing with no-plan events, they either go perfectly smooth or totally off the rails, but both ways make for a good story. The lack of pressure lets people roll with the punches instead of getting upset. I'd take that messy memory over a stiff, booked-up party any day.
