Watching a customer try to 'fix' his own slide with a Dremel three years ago in my old shop made me swear off walk-in work for good.

He brought in a Glock 19 with deep gouges in the rail channels from using a cutting wheel, and after that mess I only take appointments with folks who can prove they own proper tools or have taken a basic class.

Absolutely, that's the only way to go. I saw a guy try to polish a feed ramp with a bench grinder once, completely ruined the barrel. Some people just have no idea what they're doing. It's not worth the headache dealing with the damage afterward. Now I only work with people who have at least done their homework. Letting amateurs with power tools near a gun is a recipe for disaster.

Wait a POLISHING WHEEL on a bench grinder? How do you even hold the barrel for that
