Just realized the old guy at the gun show in Tulsa three years ago was right about using a 10-32 tap for scope base screws.
I fought a stripped screw on a Remington 700 last week and that tip from 2019 saved the whole job, so who else has a piece of old-school advice that actually holds up?

Man, those old guys at gun shows are like walking encyclopedias of weird fixes. I swear they've all got that one hyper-specific trick for something you'll mess up a decade later. My uncle once told me to use a brass punch for sight drift, and I rolled my eyes. Guess what I had to buy last month when I marred a dovetail. They just know.

Ever have that moment where you realize they were right all along, @lunab97? It's like they've already made every mistake so we don't have to. Now I just nod and take notes.

My grandpa used to say to always keep a bag of rice in your toolbox for drying out wet electronics. I thought it was just an old wives' tale until my phone went for a swim last summer. That soggy bag of jasmine rice saved my phone and my dignity.
