Rant: My local coffee shop's email list is just a weekly menu...

They send the same PDF every Friday, but I noticed their open rate tanked after the third week according to a chart they posted by the register. I asked the owner if they ever share a story about a new bean or a customer photo, and he just shrugged... What's a simple thing a small shop could add to a boring email to make people actually read it?

Open rates tank because a PDF menu is just a digital flyer. People delete it. The owner needs to put one human thing in the text of the email itself. A single line about why they picked this week's roast, or a funny thing that happened Tuesday. Makes it feel like a note from a person, not a spam bot.

Spot on. It's like getting a note from a friend that's just a link to their vacation photo album, no message. That PDF is a brick wall. Tell me the chef burned the first batch of rolls and had to send someone to the store, then I might care what's on the menu. Without that, it's just another piece of junk mail with better pictures.
