Warning: my whole color palette got wrecked by a bad projector

I was showing some logo ideas to a client at their office in Austin last Thursday, and their old projector made all my cool blues look like washed-out grays. I had to pull up the files on my phone to prove the colors were right, which felt super unprofessional. It threw off the whole meeting because we spent 20 minutes just talking about the tech fail instead of the design. Has anyone else had a presentation totally derailed by bad office equipment?

Ugh, that's the worst feeling. Did you at least get the client to see your phone screen okay in the end? I had a projector once that made every red look neon pink, it was a disaster for a bank's branding review. You end up fighting the gear instead of showing your work, and it makes you look unprepared even when it's not your fault at all. Total meeting killer.

Oh man, I read something about this. They said you should always bring your own color-calibrated monitor to big client meetings. Seems like overkill until your work looks totally wrong.

That Austin client office must have been frustrating. When you had to use your phone, did they question the final printed colors at all? I worry a tech fail plants doubt that lasts beyond the meeting.
