Looking back at my first freelance logo project in 2017, I was stuck trying to make a complex mark feel modern.

After three failed attempts, I finally just opened a new file, set the client's name in a clean, bold typeface, and spent the entire 4-hour budget just kerning the letters perfectly, which somehow made the simple wordmark feel premium and solved the whole problem.

Love how the solution is just to do your job really well. The client paid you to kern for four hours and you actually just kerned for four hours, that's honestly kind of amazing.

Wait, they paid for four hours of JUST kerning? That's a real line item? I've had clients argue over fifteen minutes on a whole branding project. Four focused hours on spacing between letters sounds like a dream, honestly.
