Vent: Tempered glass just exploded in a quiet room

Finished setting up a storefront window. Walked away for five minutes. Heard a crash like a car backfired. The whole pane was in tiny cubes on the floor. No one was even in the building. What causes that?

Tempered glass can break out of nowhere from small flaws. My shower door exploded in the same way when it got really cold. It's always surprising when something like that happens without warning.

My shower door did the same thing last year. It just popped on a really cold night for no reason. Made a loud bang and left a million little pieces in the tray. The installer said a tiny flaw in the edge can cause it.

Crazy! My buddy's shower door did that too during a cold snap last winter. Woke up to what he thought was a gunshot, just glass cubes everywhere.
