Had a job last week where we had to replace a 12-foot curved glass panel in a downtown hotel lobby... the crane rental alone was $3,500.

That crane cost is brutal but makes sense. Specialized equipment for tricky jobs always carries a premium. Just part of the game in high end construction.

Yeah, you're spot on. Had a job last year where we needed a 300-ton crane just to set some HVAC units on a tight rooftop. The bill for two days of work was more than my first truck. It's crazy, but there's just no other way to get it done.

Honestly, I gotta disagree. Calling it "just part of the game" feels like giving up. Those insane costs happen because we accept them as normal. There's got to be a better way to plan buildings so we don't need a 300-ton crane for basic equipment. It's bad design passing the buck to the build phase. We should be putting more pressure on engineers and architects to find smarter solutions from the start.
