Changed my mind about cutting laminated glass after a job in Tampa

I was doing a big storefront replacement in Tampa last month and had to cut a ton of 1/2 inch laminated safety glass. I always used to just score and snap it like regular annealed, which was hit or miss. The shop foreman there, Marco, showed me how to use a wet saw with a diamond blade specifically for laminates. The clean edge was perfect every single time, no chipping or delamination. Anyone else switch to a wet saw for their laminated work?

Yeah I saw a video where a guy was saying the water keeps the glass cool and stops the plastic interlayer from melting and grabbing the blade. Makes total sense why it works so much cleaner. I'm definitely looking into getting a setup like that now.

Wait, so the water is mostly about cooling the plastic layer? I always thought it was just to keep the dust down. That explanation from @emery879 actually makes a ton of sense now. I tried cutting some old laminated glass once and the blade just gummed up and smoked. Guess the interlayer got hot and melted.
