My studio's main furnace went cold during a big commission last month
I was in the middle of pulling a cane for a chandelier piece in my Portland shop when the temp dropped 200 degrees in under an hour. The burner had a clog I missed during my last check. I had to shut everything down, clear the port with a long pick, and spend the next six hours slowly bringing the furnace back up to temp. It pushed my deadline back by two full days and I had to eat the cost of the extra propane. Has anyone else had a furnace fail mid-project and how did you save the work in progress?

Ugh, furnace fails are the absolute worst, especially on a tight deadline. That sinking feeling when the temp plummets is just brutal. I had a similar clog last year that ruined a whole batch of tubing, total nightmare. Spending six hours babysitting the temp ramp-up is such a painful fix, but at least you saved the work in progress. Eating the extra propane cost on top of the delay is just salt in the wound, sorry you had to deal with that.

Actually, I'd take a slow ramp-up over a ruined batch any day. That extra propane cost is just part of the job.
