I always thought a full face shield was overkill until a hot shard flew up last month
I was working on a simple cup in my garage studio, just wearing my normal safety glasses. A piece of the hot gather popped off the pipe and hit my cheek, leaving a small but nasty burn. My buddy Mike saw it and said, 'Dude, your eyes aren't the only thing on your face.' I bought a proper face shield the next day and haven't looked back. Has anyone else made the switch after a close call like that?

It's funny how we ignore safety stuff until something almost happens. I see it all the time with people not wearing gloves for simple yard work until they get a nasty cut.

Sometimes the gear itself makes you clumsy and less careful.

That idea about ignoring safety until a close call is common, but I actually see it the opposite way. A lot of people, myself included, start with all the gear because we're taught to respect the tools from day one. The real habit comes from building that routine before anything goes wrong, not after.
