Question about getting a gift for my dad who's into woodworking
Honestly, I used to just get him a gift card to the hardware store every Christmas. Tbh, last year I actually bought him a specific tool he'd mentioned, a Japanese pull saw that was about $45. The difference was huge, he spent like 20 minutes showing me how it worked and he uses it all the time now. It felt way more personal than just handing over cash. Has anyone else had a better reaction with a specific tool gift over a general gift card?

Wait, a Japanese pull saw for only $45? That's a crazy good price.

Oh man, totally. I got my brother a really nice marking gauge one year after he kept borrowing mine. He still talks about it, way more than the Home Depot card I gave him once. That specific tool just showed I paid attention. It's like you're buying into the hobby with them, not just funding it.

My uncle got a gift card to Woodcraft last year and honestly seemed more excited about that than the fancy chisels I picked out the year before. He ended up getting this specific glue he wanted that I never would have known about. Sometimes the thought counts, but for a serious hobbyist, they might have their eye on a very particular brand or item. A gift card lets them get exactly what they need without the guesswork.
