PSA: I used to buy my wife flowers for our anniversary, now I get her a gift card for a local nursery.
It changed about two years ago when she pointed out the bouquet I got from the grocery store was dead in three days. Now I give her a $50 card to the place on Main Street, and she picks out a plant she really wants (like the lavender she got last year). It feels way more personal and lasts a lot longer. Anyone else switched from giving the thing to giving the chance to pick the thing?

Miss the whole point of a gift. A bouquet is a beautiful, complete thought you picked out yourself. It shows you noticed what she likes and put in the effort. Handing someone a card feels lazy, like you couldn't be bothered to choose. The flowers might die, but the memory of you bringing them home, all proud, that lasts. A gift card just turns a special day into a shopping trip.

Yeah but it depends on the person. My aunt got a gift card to her favorite plant nursery last year and she was over the moon. She spent a whole Saturday picking out stuff for her garden, said it was the best part of her birthday. Sometimes the thought is giving them the choice, you know? Not everyone wants a set thing.

Janab82's aunt proves gifts aren't one size fits all.
