Homemade cookies vs bakery gift basket was a split decision
For my neighbor's 60th birthday party last month I had to pick between baking a big batch of her favorite chocolate chip cookies or buying a fancy bakery gift basket. I went with the cookies because she always says store-bought stuff feels impersonal. Spent about $12 on ingredients and 3 hours baking 4 dozen cookies. They went fast at the party but I noticed a few people eyeing the store-bought cake from the grocery store. Would you rather receive something homemade or something fancier looking from a bakery?

Oh man, I gotta disagree with you here lol. I've gotten homemade cookies before and half the time they're either burnt on the bottom or way too dry. A good bakery basket with those little tartlets and croissants just looks so much nicer sitting on the counter. Plus you don't have to worry about someone sneezing in the batter or whatever lol. I'd rather get something that looks professional and tastes consistent every time.

Tell you what, a trick I've picked up is asking the person if they have a go-to recipe they're known for, then just say "that one sounds amazing" when they offer to bring something. Most people have that one thing they nail every time, like my aunt and her seven layer bars. The burnt cookie problem is usually people trying something new instead of sticking with what they know.
