I finally started carrying a small notebook for rock hunting

For years I just tossed cool rocks in my backpack without any notes. Last month in Sedona, I found an amazing piece of banded chert but couldn't remember which wash I pulled it from. A friend showed me his field notebook where he writes the date, location, and a quick sketch. I bought a cheap one the next day. Now I jot down the GPS coordinates and the rock type right when I pick something up. It makes labeling my collection at home so much easier. What's your system for keeping track of where you find stuff?

My own notes look like a secret code even to me, margaretshah.

At least you can decode it, my handwriting is just abstract art.
