That rear diff rebuild I swore would take a weekend... 3 months later

I blew out the rear differential on my '94 Cherokee last October after a muddy run up near Hood River. Figured I could save some cash and rebuild it myself over a Saturday. Two months later I was still chasing down the right shims for the carrier bearing preload, plus I stripped a bolt head on the ring gear. Finally buttoned it up in January after three different parts orders and a lot of cussing. Has anyone else had a 'quick' axle job turn into a winter-long project?

Three different parts orders" is kinda your own fault though, right? I mean any quick search would have told you those D30 shims are hit or miss and you gotta measure everything. Stripping a bolt head on the ring gear sounds like you just didn't use enough PB Blaster or were in too big of a hurry. I rebuilt my MJ's 8.25 in a weekend with junkyard parts and a borrowed press, no cussing required. Maybe you're overthinking it.

Noah880, did you even torque that ring gear right the first time?
