Didn't used to care about buying refurbished parts but this kinda stuff makes me reconsider. I got a reman alternator from a big parts chain last year and it's been fine so far, but 3 months is ridiculous for something that's supposed to get you down the road. Had a buddy who swore by used parts from the junkyard but his starter died in like 2 weeks so that changed my mind too. Sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet and pay more for new to save yourself the headache of breaking down in the middle of nowhere.

Ugh seriously it's like everything's built to fail on purpose these days. Not just car parts either, think about phone chargers or headphones or even furniture. They make stuff just good enough to kinda work for a little while then it breaks so you have to buy another one. And yeah your buddy's junkyard starter dying in 2 weeks totally sounds about right. It's a gamble either way with used or refurbished stuff. The whole system is set up so you either pay through the nose for new or roll the dice on something that might crap out on you at the worst possible moment. Can't win.
