That $12 screen protector I almost skipped saved my phone yesterday

Dropped my Pixel 7 straight onto concrete while getting out of my car. Screen protector cracked top to bottom but the display underneath is fine. Anyone else had a cheap protector pay off way better than you expected?

Well I'll be darned, that's exactly what happened to my buddy Tom last month. He dropped his phone getting out of his truck and the cheap protector shattered but the screen was fine underneath. I read somewhere that the difference between cheap and expensive protectors is mostly the oleophobic coating wearing off faster on the cheap ones. The glass itself does the same job of taking the hit. So yeah a $12 pack of three works just as good as the $40 ones in my experience.

Cheap protectors do the same job as expensive ones if they're tempered glass. Had a 3-pack from Amazon save my screen three times before I finally upgraded phones. Just make sure you get one with the black border around the edges so it lines up perfect.

I gotta disagree with you on that one, @casey393. Those cheap ones with the black border can actually block part of the screen or cause bubbles if the adhesive isn't great, and the glass breaks easier than the pricier brands from what I've seen.
