My new smart scale called me a liar for a whole month

Got one of those fancy scales that connects to an app. For the first four weeks, it said I gained two pounds. Felt weird because my clothes fit the same. Turns out I had it on a thick bathroom rug in my apartment. Moved it to the tile floor last Tuesday. Suddenly I'm down five pounds. The whole graph in the app looks like a mountain then a cliff. Has anyone else had a gadget give totally wrong data because of where you put it?

Learned that lesson the hard way with my first smart scale. Those things need a perfectly hard, flat surface to work right. A rug, even a thin one, acts like a spring and throws off the sensors completely. I keep mine on a bare spot of bathroom floor now and always make sure my feet are dry. The manual probably said to do that, but who reads those?

Yeah, benk26 is right about the hard surface. Feels like half the tech we buy now has some weird, easy-to-miss rule that breaks it. My wifi router was the same way, had to move it away from the fish tank.
