Shoutout to the guy at the hardware store who mentioned his shellac method
I was picking up some denatured alcohol in Springfield last Tuesday and overheard another customer telling the clerk he mixes a 2-pound cut of shellac with a tiny bit of boiled linseed oil before padding. I tried it on a walnut tabletop yesterday and the flow was so much smoother, with way less drag on the pad. Has anyone else experimented with adding a little oil to their padding shellac, and what ratios do you use?

Honestly, just watch out for the oil messing with your final finish coat.
