My wife's cousin swore by using mayonnaise to fix a water ring on a table

He said to just slather it on, leave it overnight, and wipe it off. I thought he was nuts, but the ring was on a cheap side table so I gave it a shot. The next morning, the white mark was totally gone, like magic. I still have no idea why it works, something about the oil filling the dried out wood. Has anyone else had a weird home fix like that actually pan out?

Mayo works shockingly well, it's the oil and egg that do it. @piperr58 is right about toothpaste too, the mild abrasive helps. My grandma swore by rubbing a walnut on scratches, the oil darkens the wood. These old tricks are better than half the stuff you buy in a store.

Is it really worth putting food on your furniture though?

Oh wow, that's wild. I've used toothpaste for water rings before, but mayo is a new one.
