Blending leftover finishes cuts down trash

I mix partial cans to make new shades. Saves cash and is planet-friendly.

Ever run into problems with the blended finish separating or changing color over time? Mixing different brands or sheens can screw up the consistency. How do you keep track of what you mixed together for future touch-ups? I label my cans with the recipe, but it's still a gamble sometimes.

Everything these days makes us improvise half-assed solutions.

Calling it a gamble is too negative. I've mixed brands and sheens for years without seeing separation. If you stir it well and use similar bases, the color stays put. Labeling cans with the exact mix has always worked for my touch-ups. The key is to write down every detail, even the brand names. Over time, I've found that these custom blends often look better than off-the-shelf options.
