Am I the only one who avoids chalk paint on solid wood?
I see so many people slapping chalk paint on good oak tables... it just seems like a waste of beautiful material to me.

At the local antique mall, half the furniture is covered in chalk paint now. But is it REALLY that bad if someone wants a white table instead of brown wood? It's their table, and chalk paint isn't permanent anyway. Some folks just prefer the look, and that's FINE. Calling it a waste seems a bit dramatic for a style choice.

Totally agree! Saw a vintage dresser last week that someone had painted a soft gray, and it looked amazing in their modern living room. The original wood was pretty scratched up anyway, so the paint gave it new life. Who cares if it's not 'original' if it makes the owner happy? Plus, like you said, chalk paint can be removed if someone changes their mind later.

Notice how this chalk paint thing is part of a bigger trend where people cover up good stuff to fit in. We do it with old houses, tearing out real wood for cheap laminate. It's like we're scared of anything that looks used or has a history. Everyone wants everything to match some picture they saw online, and the real value gets lost. In a few years, they'll be scraping off the paint and acting like they discovered vintage wood.
