My neighbor told me to stop buying canned beans and I'm so glad I listened

She said 'the dried ones are a quarter of the price and just need a soak.' I was skeptical about the extra time, but I bought a 2-pound bag of dried pinto beans for $1.89. After soaking them overnight and cooking a big pot, I got the same amount as about eight cans, which would have cost me over $7. The texture is WAY better and I can control the salt. It's now my main protein for the week. Has anyone else made this switch and found a favorite bean type?

Gotta say the math is a little off there... a two pound bag of dried beans makes way more than eight cans. I get about twelve cans worth from mine. The real game changer for me was learning you don't actually need to soak them overnight. Just boil for a couple minutes, turn off the heat, and let them sit covered for an hour. They're ready to cook after that.

Hey @butler.abby, does that quick soak trick work for all bean types, or just certain ones?

Honestly I've messed up the bean math so many times I should probably stick to canned. That quick soak trick is a lifesaver though.
